A Sampling: Highlights from the Permanent Collection
8 September - 22 December 2006
A Sampling: Highlights from the Permanent Collection, which includes paintings, ceramics, and sculpture, is on view in the Helm Gallery from September 8 to December 22. This is one of the last temporary installations of objects from the permanent collection before the existing galleries become used exclusively for the long-term installation of the permanent collection when the museum's new wing opens in late 2007. A Sampling features landscapes, figurative work, and a variety of three-dimensional objects. A number of the works in the exhibition will be familiar to regular visitors to the museum. Among the paintings included are Jeff Aeling's Thunderstorm near Colby, KS, Roger Shimomura's Martin Cheng: Painter and Fisherman, and Andrea Piper's Iceberg. Three-dimensional objects include Jessie Montes's cardboard sculpture, 21 with Cube, 2006 gift print artist Randy Regier's Whitey Cracker, and Renée Stout's neon signs, I Can Heal #2 and Church of the Crossroads. Several works in the exhibition are recent acquisitions and are on view for the first time. These include Bruce Moore's Robert T. Aitchison (1961), a low-relief portrait bust, and Gordon Moore's painting, Float (2005).
