NEW EXHIBITION OF FEATURE WORK BY FORMER K-STATE PROFESSOR OF
ART JIM
MUNCE
22 April 2005 - 14 August 2005
MMANHATTAN
-- Kansas State University's Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art will
sponsor an exhibition of prints by Jim Munce, professor emeritus of art
at K-State and the 2005 Friends of the Beach Museum of Art Gift Print
Artist.
The exhibition will open Friday, April 22, and run through Sunday, Aug.
14. This is the third time Munce has been selected as the museum's gift
print artist.
Munce, a professor of printmaking from 1972 until his retirement in spring
2003, creates work characterized by technique and an insistence on narrative,
which he draws from Christian literature.
His 2005 gift print is "Vegetable Still Life with Displaced Garlic,"
an
etching which will be printed in an edition of 35 and available to
members of the Friends of the Beach Museum of Art. His previous museum
gift prints were "Breakfast Room Triptych," a 1982 lithograph,
and "Starlight Staircase," a 1990 etching.
Among the work featured in his latest exhibition will be prints and related
drawings from all of his major series, including "The Conservatory
Suite," "St. Francis Restores the Neglected Church," "The
Wedding at Cana," "St. Cecelia in Ecstasy" and "The
Garage Bestiary."
The exhibition is sponsored by the Friends of the Beach Museum of Art
Business Partners. More information about the exhibition is available
by calling the museum office at 785-532-7718.
The Beach Museum of Art is on the southeast corner of the K-State campus
at 14th Street and Anderson Avenue. Admission is free and complimentary
visitor parking is available adjacent to the facility. Museum hours are
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
