Research Focus

Infectious microbes have developed various mechanisms to resist antimicrobial agents. Specifically we are interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance through multidrug efflux pumps and biofilms formation in pathogenic bacteria and fungi. We screened for small molecules that can inhibit the efflux activity and/or biofilms formation in pathogens and have identified many promising candidates. Studying their mechanisms of action will help us to advance our knowledge in microbial resistance and to identify novel pathways/drug targets for antimicrobial development.
