Scholastic Activities
Beta Sigma Psi National Fraternity was developed to promote the highest of scholastic excellence and leadership training. A member's development of these
critical skills are crucial to not only college life but life in the real world. Such scholastic activities include study hours, leadership seminars and development,
awareness speakers, an associate member orientation program and incentives for scholastic commitment.
One of our main goals at Beta Sigma Psi is to develop vital skills needed in member’s personal and professional lives. Through various membership
seminars, campus involvement and a host of in-house offices, the men of Beta Sigma Psi continue to develop skills crucial to college and career and desired
by employers in today’s world. Major universities have an enrollment measured in thousands. Beta Sigma Psi reduces that number to the dozens. Zeta
Chapter of Beta Sigma Psi is small enough to provide a brotherhood of close friends, but large enough to compete strongly in leadership opportunities. As you
begin the development program within our organization, you will build confidence in yourself and others. You will be the leaders our house, the leaders of our
campus and the leaders of our future.
Study Hours

Beta Sigma Psi and its Scholarship Chair have always implemented strategies and techniques to enhance the Grade Point Average for all of its members. We
have always found ourselves above the All Men’s University Average and consistently are in the top echelons of campus fraternities.
New members to Beta Sigma Psi should expect study hours for their first semester. Study hours are also employed for members below a 2.5 GPA. Study hall
hours are from Sunday night to Thursday night from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Often times the Scholarship Chair will make the rounds helping members develop
proper study habits and to help with any challenging subjects. All members are devoted to helping each other with studies and always take an interest in helping
those members needing special attention.
Membership Education Forum (MEF)
In the spring semester, members can expect to attend the annual weekend MEF, or National Membership Education Forum, at varying Beta Sig chapter houses.
This leadership-training seminar is a chance for all chapters of Beta Sigma Psi to unite and discuss the future of Beta Sigma Psi Fraternity. All members, whether
that be the newest associate member to the newly elected President discuss ideas and solutions to problems.
As well, leadership and communication skills are honed as various programs are included in this weekend event. Members have the opportunity to chat with other
chapter members or to talk to highly ranking national officers. Often times, one will find himself in a one-on-one conversation with the National President of Beta
Sigma Psi.
After the morning and afternoon training, all members of all chapter of Beta Sigma Psi National Fraternity partake in the National Basketball Tournament. During
this basketball tournament, chapters compete for the National Trophy. At the 2003 conference, after intense play, Zeta Chapter achieved 2nd place in the tourney.
Awareness Speakers
Beta Sigma Psi has always strived to bring in outside speakers to develop skills in critical areas.
Whether this be the annual dining etiquette speaker or a speaker to talk about alcohol awareness, Beta Sigs are never short of gaining important information
developing vital skills. Our 1st Vice President is in charge of these operations and it has been the goal to incorporate at least 2 speakers per semester during formal dinner.
Orientation Program
For new associate members, an orientation program, developed by past president Dane Kohrs, has been included for orienting and educating new members about
college life, about fraternity life and about being a Beta Sig. This orientation program is usually a 3 to 4 day process incorporating videos about alcohol awareness,
introducing chapter officers and delivering of the associate membership manual. This critical time allows new members the chance to become acquainted of the goals,
purposes and traditions that embody our organization. Again, our 1st Vice President is in charge of this program and it has been extremely important to the development
of successful collegians.
Incentives
Zeta Chapter of Beta Sigma Psi and Beta Sigma Psi National Fraternity offer many incentives for scholastic dedication and excellence.

Within our chapter, awards are given to best pledge son & pledge dad grades, best room grades and most improved grades. As well, active members of Beta Sigma
Psi will purchase the active pin for the associate member obtaining the highest GPA in his class. This pin can be seen to the right. In addition to the previous incentives,
Zeta Chapter of Beta Sigma Psi also awards the Larry Erickson Associate Member Scholarship in the amount of $300 every semester to any associate member obtaining
a 3.0 Grade Point Average or higher their first semester.
In 2004, Zeta Chapter initiated an additional service scholarship to all members in residence. The objectives of the Beta Sigma Psi Service Scholarship are to encourage
Lutheran college men to become faithful and energetic Christian leaders, to provide service to a Lutheran congregation or Lutheran campus ministry, to provide spiritual
growth through service and to enhance the service commitment of the men of Beta Sigma Psi to the Lutheran community. Applicants selected to participate in the program
are assigned Lutheran ministry tasks such as Sunday School, confirmation instruction, singing in the choir or leading Bible study. The applicant will be expected to perform
2 hours per week of service each semester for a 1,000 dollar a year scholarship. This program, introduced by long outstanding alumni Dr. Larry E. Erickson, is supported
by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
Beta Sigma Psi National Fraternity has always provided scholarships focused on need, scholastic achievement and leadership achievement. In fact, Beta Sigma Psi National
Fraternity is recognized as the highest percentage dollar amount provider of scholarship given the size of the National Organization.
