The "CatBand" is a group that plays during men's and women's basketball games, as well as other events in the community to energize the Wildcat Nation!!  

The CatBand is under the direction of Mr. Don Linn.

 

2014/2015 Cat Band Auditions

 

Basketball Season is just right around the corner and so are Cat Band Auditions! The Cat Band Basketball Band plays for Men's and Women's Home Basketball Games. It is a great experience and a very fun group to be a part of. With this year's projected basketball success there is also a very real possibility of NCAA Tournament Travel. We will also be playing tournaments in the Sprint Center, the Men's Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City, and the Big 12 Women's Tournament in Dallas!  In previous years we have traveled to St. Louis, Kansas City, Dallas, Pittsburg, Tucson, Oklahoma City, Salt Lake City, and Connecticut (twice).  This year NCAA regional action is happening in : Jacksonville, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Portland, Charlotte, Columbus, Omaha, and Seattle. The Sweet Sixteen is looking like: Cleveland, LA, Houston, and Syracuse. PRETTY COOL!

 

 Woodwind and Brass Auditions Are:

 

 Sunday, October 5th - 7:00pm - 10:30pm

 

 Monday, October 6th - 9:30am - 12:30pm, 2:00pm - 3:00pm

 

 Tuesday, October 7th - 9:00am - 11:30am, 12:30pm - 2:45pm, 8:00pm - 10:30pm

 

Drum and Bass Preliminary Auditions – October 9th, 8:30pm McCain 201

 

 You must sign up for an audition time outside of McCain 226 (Band Office)

 

 These auditions will factor into tournament placement. Most folks who audition will make the Basketball Band so give it a shot! We would like a big band this year.

 

 Wind Auditions will be held in McCain 226 (Mr. Linn's Office)

 

 Wind Audition Requirements : You may play either the Fight Song (Wildcat Victory) or the attached prepared piece. The choice is yours.  All winds auditioning will be considered for Tournaments! Please Click here for the required piece - print and prepare your part for the audition if you choose.

 

 - Drum Set and Electric Bass players - Please contact me by email (dplinn@ksu.edu) if you are interested in auditioning and sign up for a time for October 9th on the bulletin board at McCain 226.

 

The Drum Set and Bass audition info and requirements:

 

 

The first night of Set and Bass Auditions will be October 9th in McCain room 201 - 8:30pm

 

The second night of Set and Bass Auditions will be October 20th in All Faiths Chapel - 7:30pm

 

Drums and Bass Round 1 (Oct. 9th) :

Drums will prepare the following grooves : Rock, Funk, Hip-Hop.  Director will ask for different tempos. 

Bass will prepare: Bass Round 1 piece (print the tuba part and transpose up 1 octave)

Drums and Bass Round 2 (Oct. 20th):

Drums will prepare their choice of the following tunes: Piece 1, Piece 2, Piece 3  (these are all just guides/lead sheets - You must prepare the piece based on the form your see on the lead sheets, the original tunes, and what you hear from the band.)

Bass will prepare: Bass Round 2 piece (print the tuba part and transpose up 1 octave)

 

I hope you all decide to join Cat Band.  We play a lot of great tunes and most people who audition will make it! Did I mention you will have a lot of fun and a lot of opportunities for travel??? This is going to be a great season of basketball (Both Men’s and Women’s teams will be incredible!) and we want you to be a part of it!
