After a decade of effort, promoting and fundraising, Manhattan's new Larry Norvell Bandshell was dedicated on June 8, 2004 before a packed crowd. Former band members and students of Larry's came from all over the country to be present for the dedication, and many joined the MMB on stage for Maestro Norvell's two signature pieces, America the Beautiful, arranged by Carmen Dragon, and John Philip Sousa's The Stars and Stripes Forever. Larry Norvell graciously took the baton and led the band in what could not have been a more emotional performance and accepted more than just a few standing ovations from the capacity crowd.
