Chapter on November 17, 2006. She is a Sophomore in Biochemistry
and Pre-Medicine. She served as the 2007 Beta Rho Chapter
Recorder. She currently serves as Master Alchemist. Outside of Alpha
Chi Sigma, she is a 2007 Howard Hughes Medical Institute Undergraduate
Research Scholar and works in the lab of Dr. Ted Morgan in the
Department of Biology where she is working on a project developing a set
of molecular markers based on single feature polymorphisms data in
artificial selection lines. |

Larry Erickson
Dr. Erickson was initiated into the Beta
Rho Chapter on April 29, 1978. He is currently a Professor of
Chemical Engineering and directs the Center for Hazardous Substance
Research. Dr. Erickson received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering
from K-State in 1960 and his Ph.D in 1964 from K-State in Chemical
Engineering, which was the first doctorate issued by in Chemical
Engineering program. He was a National Defense Education Act
Fellow for his graduate studies, which was the most prestigious honor a
graduate student could receive at the time. He joined the K-State
Chemical Engineering faculty in 1964 and became a full professor after
only eight years. In his more than forty years of service to the
field of chemical engineering, he has published nearly 400 papers
covering a wide range of topics and is co-author of chapters in six
books. He has advised nearly 60 graduate students and taught over
1000 undergraduate students. In addition to membership in Alpha
Chi Sigma, he is a member of Sigma Xi, Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Sigma Psi,
the American Chemical Society, the American Society for
Microbiology, the Editorial Advisory Board of Environmental
Progress, and the Society of Fermentation Technology of Japan and
is a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
Among the numerous award he has received are the 2006 Phi Kappa
Phi Faculty Scholar Award, 2006 AIChE Environmental Division Lawrence
K. Cecil Award, the 2001 Irvin E. Youngberg Award His
research interests include biochemical engineering, biological waste
treatment process design and synthesis, mathematical optimization,
transport theory, boundary layer theory, and environmental
engineering. |

Undergraduate Scholarship; the Anderson Award for Outstanding Academics; the Theresa Ann Tollefson Memorial Scholarship; and the Beta Rho Chapter of Alpha Chi Sigma Scholarship. Outside
of Alpha Chi Sigma, she is a member of Phi Lambda Upsilon chemistry honorary, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Alpha Chi Omega, and the Order of Omega Greek Honorary.
She also works in the laboratory of Dr.
Duy Hua in the Department of Chemistry. Her current research
project titles are "Mechanistic Studies of Disaggregation of
Alzheimer's Oligomers and Protofibrils of Amyloid Beta Peptides" and
"Design and Synthesis of Novel Laccase Inhibitors." She also
participated in the University of Kansas Pharmaceutical Chemistry
Department's Summer Undergraduate Research Program in 2006. She
was selected as a National Institutes of Health K-INBRE Star Trainee
2007-2008. After she graduates in May 2008, she plans to pursue a
Ph.D. in pharmacology at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill.

Stefan Bossmann
Dr. Bossman was initiated
into Beta Rho on November 17, 2006. He is a Professor of
Chemistry, Terry C. Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research
Scientist, and a Fellow of the Midwest Institute for Comparative Stem
Cell Biology. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of
Saarland, Germany in 1988 and 1991. He joined the K-State faculty
in 2004. His research explores the unique physical and chemical
properties of channel proteins isolated from Mycobacterium smegmatis
and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. |

Mary Rezac

Rezac was initiated into the Beta Rho Chapter on April 13, 1985.
She is Professor and Head of the Department of Chemical
Engineering and is the first woman department head in the College of
Engineering. She earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from
K-State in 1987, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the
University of Texas at Austin in 1992 and 1993, respectively. She
joined the K-State faculty at K-State in 2002 and has more than fifty
publications to her credit. Her research interests include mass
transport, polymer science, membrane separation processes, and hybrid
system designs. |

Scholarship nominee and a recipient of the 2006 Goldwater Scholarship, a KSU
Foundation Scholarship, June Sherrid Hull Basic Cancer Research Center
Scholarship, King Memorial Scholarship, and the Division of Biology's
Most Promising Student Award. Outside of Alpha Chi Sigma, she is
a 2005 Howard Hughes Medical Institute Undergraduate Research Scholar, and
is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Students for Environmental
Action, Alpha Epsilon Mu Microbiology Club, and is President of the Archery Club. She
is participating in undergraduate research on "Characterizing New
Perylene Diimides as Potential Cancer Therapy Treatment Molecules"
under the supervision of Daniel Higgins, associate professor of
chemistry and has worked as a chemistry lab teaching assistant.
She has also interned for Honeywell Federal Manufaturing &
Technologies. After graduating in May 2008, she plans to attend
the Scripps Research Institute Kellogg School of Science and Technology
where she plans to earn a Ph.D. in biological chemistry.

Dr.
Smith was initiated into the Beta Rho Chapter on February 16, 1974.
He is currently an Associate Professor of Food Chemistry for the
Department of Animals Sciences and performs research at the Food Science
Institute. He earned his B.S. in Biology from Brescia College in
1972, his M.S. in Biochemistry from Kansas State in 1975, and his
Ph.D. in Food Science from Penn State University in 1981. He
joined the K-State Faculty in 1989. Dr. Smith is Chair of the
Toxicology and Safety Evaluation Division and Chair of the Food
Chemistry Division Graduate Student Poster Competition in the Institute
of Food Technologists. He is also a member of the Agricultural
and Food Chemistry Division of the American Chemical Society, the AOAC,
the American Association fort he Advancement of Science, and Phi Tau
Sigma Honorary Society. His research programs are in the areas of
food analysis and toxicology.

Culbertson is the recipient of the American Chemical Society Division
of Analytical Chemistry's 2006 Award for Young Investigators in
Separations Science, the 2007 Masao Horiba Award for "Rapid Analysis of
Individual T-Lymphocyte Cells on Microfluidic Devices," K-State's
2007 Segebrecht Distinguished Teaching Faculty Achievement Award, and a
$530,000 National Science Foundation grant to develop "lab-on-a-chip"
technology. |

university's Bioprocessing and Industrial Value-Added Program.
He earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Baker University, a M.S. in
Physical Chemistry from Kansas State University, and a Ph.D. in
Biochemistry from Kansas State University. Dr. Madl joined the
K-State Administration in 1997. He is a member for the American
Association of Cereal Chemists, the American Chemical Society, the
Inistitute of Food Technologyise, and the National Corn Growers
Association.

joined the K-State faculty in 1996 and is a member of the Phi Beta
Kappa Society,

Kenneth J. Klabunde
Dr. Klabunde was initiated into the Alpha Theta Chapter in 1966. He is currently a University Distinguished Professor in the Department
of Chemistry. He received a B.A. in chemistry from Augustana
College in 1965 and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Iowa in
1969. He joined the K-State faculty in 1979 and served as head of the
Department of Chemistry until 1988. He was named a university
distinguished professor in 1988. Dr. Klanunde is an
internationally known expert in the field of metal atom chemistry and
in nanoscale particles. He has delivered more than 100 lectures
in 14 different countries and is the author or nearly 400 professional
publications. In 1990, he patented a new method for coating
substrates. In addition to his position at K-State, he serves as
Founding Director and Consultant for Nanoscale Materials, Inc., a
company that came about as a result of his research. Dr. Klabunde
has received numerous awards throughout his career including the 1998
Midwest Award from the St. Louis section of the American Chemical
Society, the Technology of the Year Award by the Silicon Prairie
Technology Associatation in 1996, the Olin Petefish Award in the Basic
Sciences in 1995, and the Conoco Distinguished Graduate Faculty Member
in 1992. He is a member of several professional organizations in
addition to Alpha Chi Sigma including the American Chemical Society,
Phi Lambda Upsilon, and Sigma Xi.
