How can I join?
To
become a member of AXSigma, one must be a Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Chemical
Engineering major with a minimum of fifteen credit hours or be any major and
have at least 30 credit hours. Pledges than have a minimum six week pledge
period in which they learn more about us and meet the active members. After his
or her initiation, he or she gets all the perks of a full-fledged active member.
Rush occurs four to six weeks into each semester, depending upon the
academic calendar. We send letters to students who appear to have enthusiasm for
chemistry and invite them to an informational meeting at which they can learn
more about our organization. If you would like to join and did not receive a
letter, please contact our Master Alchemist (President), whose e-mail address is
under the members section.
What is
pledging like?
Our pledge process is very low-key compared to that
of most social fraternities. As students majoring in the sciences ourselves, we
understand the time restrictions you may face as you balance both schoolwork and
pledging. Our process mainly focuses on weekly meetings and events designed to
let you, the pledge, bond with others in your pledge class and help you and the
brothers get to know each other better. Past events have included barbecues,
paintball tournaments, ice cream socials, and bowling competitions. The pledge
meetings are also a time to help you to learn material about our chapter, the
fraternity, and alchemy.
