Alpha Tau Omega
Kansas State University
Recruitment 2007-2008

Why ATO? That is what this is all about:

Jared M. Keating
Recruitment Chairman

In 2003 our Chapter received “The Nation Award of Distinction” from the North-American Interfraternity Conference, which recognized our Chapter as the top undergraduate Chapter in the nation (out of over 5,500 chapters).

In 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2004 and again in 2005, our National Fraternity recognized our Chapter for its overall excellence by awarding the "Top Chapter Award," which recognizes the best Chapter of ATO in the Nation. In 2003, we were awarded National Runner-Up. We also have received the "True Merit Award," which recognizes the top chapters of ATO in the Nation, 26 of the 37 years of the Award's existence and Honorable Mention 7 times. We have also been nationally recognized 17 times for the Best Communications Program, three times for the Best Public Relations Program and once for Best Social Service Program.

Alpha Tau Omega is the tenth-largest Fraternity in the number of initiates and number of chapters.

ATO was the first Fraternity in the Nation to abolish hazing and other pre-initiation activities and institute in their place a positive member education program.

Our chapter stresses a positive member education program. During the semester of your pledgeship, constructive and educational activities are combined with social, scholastic, and service-oriented programs. There is no hazing: not only doesn't it make any sense, it's illegal.

Community Service:

Community and Social Services are very important to ATO, both locally and at a nation level. Alpha Tau Omega is very service oriented. We work closely with Boys and Girls Club and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Manhattan, along with raising money for St. Jude’s Cancer patients. ATO is also involved in “Adopt-a-Highway” program and social service philanthropies such as Homeless 4 Hunger and Wildcat Request Live, which are sponsored by the chapter. There is a tremendous amount of brotherhood and closeness, along with self-satisfaction that comes with serving the community.

Brotherhood:

What sets us apart from other fraternities? That's easy, it's our brotherhood. Brotherhood is what Alpha Tau Omega is all about. Despite our diversity, everyone comes together for the benefit of all. No matter what we are doing or whereever we go, we are always having fun just being together.

Leadership:

ATO is more than a place to live with friends. It is a great place for personal development. From hearing advice from 82 others to LeaderShape.
LeaderShape is a week-long leadership development program located outside of Champaign, IL. Each summer our chapter sends 10-12 brothers. LeaderShape is a great place to learn a lot about yourself and find leadership skills you thought you never had. You also get to meet other undergraduates from around the nation.

Homecoming:

Homecoming is a great time of the year, and we are successfull in the KSU Homecoming Competition.  During the last 16 years, ATO has won the float competition 10 times and the overall trophy six times.  Since it is a week-long activity and done with another sorority and another fraternity, we have fun too.

Initiation:

Initiation is the culminating event of pledgship and marks the final transition into becoming an active in Alpha Tau Omega. It is not just the end of the pledge semester, but the beginning of a lifetime of involvement in the chapter. Fall pledges are initiated before the beginning of Spring Semester; and Spring pledges are initiated before the beginning of the school year in the fall.
