Biological and Agricultural Engineering
Mission Statement
The Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department provides knowledge, technology, and
leadership for the improvement of food and fiber production, processing, and distribution systems
that address environmental quality and safety issues and that are responsive to the needs of Kansans.
We accomplish our threefold mission in teaching, research, and extension as follows:
Teaching:
- by delivering an outstanding Biological and Agricultural Engineering undergraduate degree
program in the College of Engineering built upon sound engineering principles and practices that
allows graduates to be successful in their engineering careers,
- by providing a high quality Agricultural Technology Management undergraduate degree program in the
College of Agriculture that assures graduates will succeed in their careers, and
- by delivering a high quality M.S. in Biological and Agricultural Engineering that prepares students to
contribute to the advancement of the state-of-the-art in industry and to succeed in high quality Ph.D.
programs in Biological and Agricultural Engineering.
Research:
- by performing basic and applied engineering research to produce new knowledge in machinery systems,
natural resources management, environmental protection, and processing of biological materials that
benefitKansas and the world, and
- by producing Ph.D. graduates in Biological and Agricultural Engineering who will
contribute to the knowledge base, transfer this knowledge to future generations, and
leverage this knowledge to improve the human condition.
Extension:
- by providing public service to disseminate relevant and timely engineering knowledge
through K-State Research and Extension necessary for Kansasfarmers, industries, and
general citizenry to operate efficiently and safely, to use natural resources wisely,
to protect the environment from the impacts ofagricultural practices, and to add value
to basic biological materials.
