Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Marketing is to generate, disseminate, and apply marketing knowledge by engaging in high quality teaching, research, professional service, and professional development activities. The department strives to be recognized as the leader in undergraduate marketing education in Kansas.

Goals

Our primary goal is to educate and develop marketing practitioners with the potential to advance to leadership positions in their careers. Our long-term strategy for the Department of Marketing and International Business is to be the best undergraduate marketing program in Kansas. We strive to be competitive with the best undergraduate marketing programs at public research universities in Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri, and Oklahoma. The faculty support the Master of Business Administration and Master of Accountancy programs with high quality service courses.

The Department of Marketing and International Business emphasizes service to students, alumni, the Advisory Council, the academic marketing profession, and the citizens and institutions of Kansas. Service to students, alumni, and the Advisory Council is accomplished primarily via teaching, advising, consulting, job placement, and career counseling. Service to the academic community is reflected largely in the scholarly achievements of the faculty. Faculty members generate research that is published in academic journals in marketing and related fields and presented at refereed marketing conferences. Effectively living the life of a scholar and implementing the mission of the Department and the College of Business Administration fulfill our service commitment to the citizens and institutions of Kansas.

Faculty members recognize the important roles that teaching, research, professional service, and professional development play in advancing the discipline and building the academic reputation of the Department and College. Quality research, teaching, professional service and professional development are critical to attaining recognition and rewards, including tenure and promotion, for individual faculty members. Teaching and research are given approximately equal emphasis and are considered to be more important than service.
