Become an Academy for Student-Centered Learning scholar by participating in events to enhance the culture of student-centered learning at K-State.  The Academy is designed for faculty and staff with a commitment to continually improving student learning across the curricular and co-curricular realms.  By bringing people together who share this common goal, the Academy will create collaborative opportunities for the entire K-State community to join forces to provide the highest quality learning experiences for students.  


Registration for the Fall 2014 Academy Series is now closed.  Registration for the Canvas sessions and the Institute for Student Learning Assessment will continue until their respective deadlines. 

Attend two of the following events to become an Academy Scholar. Separate Registration Required for the Assessment in Canvas Manhattan Sessions and Institute for Student Learning Assessment.

Manhattan Sessions

Assessment 100: Introduction to Student Learning - Hale 301

9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 14 or 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 28

Participants will learn the basics of assessment and how it can be used to improve student learning.  An overview of the student learning assessment process and resources to support assessment will be shared. 

 

Student Learning Assessment for Courses in Canvas - Hale 301

2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 17 or 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 30, or 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, or 10:30 to 11:30 Tuesday, November 4.

Participants will learn how the tools in K-State's new learning management system, Canvas, can be used to monitor student progress across learning outcomes and target interventions to improve student learning.

Student Learning Assessment for Programs in Canvas - Hale 301

10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 8

Participants will learn how the tools in Canvas can be used to efficiently facilitate program student learning assessment.  Instead of tracking assessment data using spreadsheets, programs can set up Canvas to track and report student achievement data automatically.

The Institute for Student Learning Assessment - K-State Student Union

9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 14 - Attend part or all

The annual Institute for Student Learning Assessment will feature best-practice posters, sessions, and workshops focused on improving student learning using effective assessment.  The 2014 Institute will have sessions on practical classroom assessment techniques, assessment for first-year student retention, online course assessment, and assessment for transfer students.
