Background

I was born and raised in Tipton, Missouri, a small town just north of Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri.

Education

Bachelor of Social Work-Missouri State University, 1980
Master of Science, College Student Personnel- Kansas State University, 1983

First Impression of Manhattan

My first campus visit to Kansas State was November, 1980. The trees on campus were bursting with fall colors; they reminded me so much of the Ozarks in southern Missouri. The faculty and staff I met were so impressive, that I knew K-State was the right fit for me to pursue my master’s degree. My plan was to return to Missouri State University (then Southwest Missouri State University), but after 27 years I am still in Kansas.

Favorite Pastime

I love spending time with family and friends. Ninety percent of my family lives outside of Kansas so we spend a lot of time traveling. I also love camping, hiking and reading maps!

 On Academic Advising

It is a great privilege to advise and work with college students. I want to help my advisees explore and discover the many different opportunities this college community has to offer. Everything from career and major decisions to expanding intellectual and social experiences all play an important role in each student becoming an active and engaged citizen. My goal is to encourage each student to create an educational experience that propels them into life-long learners and prepares them to fulfill their life’s goals.

Interesting Fact

I got such a kick out of hiking the Grand Canyon the first time; I have returned 8 more times!

Last word

One of my favorite quotes: “It is not the brains that matter most, but that which guides them-the character, the heart, generous qualities, progressive ideas.”
~Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Russian Novelist
