Julie Hunt

Background

I was born and raised in the "steel mill" town of Warren, Ohio. After graduating from college in 1980, I taught music in Denver, CO; Rochester, NY; Ithaca, NY; and Toledo, OH. I quit teaching in 1987 to stay home with my daughter. In 1988, I was asked to help out part time as an advisor in the Education Department at Bowling Green State University. I did that for 9 years. Then we moved to Manhattan and I started advising here at K-State in 2000.

Education

I graduated from Youngstown State University with a BM in Music Education. I completed a masters degree from Kansas State University in 2003, in College Student Personnel with a Counseling Emphasis.

First Impressions of Manhattan

As we drove across the prairie from Kansas City, my first thoughts were, "This place is really out in the middle of no where." Then we drove over the hill that leads into Manhattan off of Highway 177 and I saw this beautiful little town tucked away in the Flint hills, it took my breath away. I have come to love the "big sky" and the sunsets.

Favorite Pastime

I love to go hiking in the forests, out on the prairie or in the mountains with my family.

On Academic Advising

I hope that students feel comfortable coming to me with questions. The main purpose of my job is to help students. I'd like to think of this office as a source of accurate information, and a place where advisees know that someone cares how they are progressing.

Interesting Fact

I play trombone in the Manhattan Municipal Band.

Last Word

My goal is to provide information that will enable the student to make important academic decisions for themselves.
