Advisor Information
This page relays advisor information for advisors/students associated with Open Option or with an Arts and Sciences interdisciplinary major. Please check with the appropriate department if you need advisor information for other curriculums.
Who is your advisor?
The first letter of your last name determines who your advisor is. Although that might seem slightly impersonal, we really do work with you individually. You just need to make that appointment. We look forward to meeting you.

How/where to make an appointment
- Plan ahead. We schedule our appointments in advance to advise you more efficiently. We open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We also close for lunch from noon to 1 p.m.
- Generally, you can call for an appointment on any weekday if times are available. We start accepting appointments every Friday for the next week. Call early Friday for the best choice of appointment times.
- During the pre-enrollment periods, procedures for making appointments may be a little different. Check with your advisor for specific instructions.
- Call or stop by the following locations to make your appointment:
Jo Maseberg-Thomlinson
Julie Hunt112 Eisenhower Hall
(785) 532-6904Gayla Adams-Wright
Colina Stanton
Susan Watt
Erin Bishop
Rebecca Bohner113 Eisenhower Hall
(785) 532-6900Nancy Habluetzel
Tami Duch
Angelia Perry121 Eisenhower Hall
(785) 532-5480 - The person making the appointment will need the following information:
- Name
- Wildcat ID Number
- Telephone Number
- Reason for the Appointment
- That's it! Just remember to come. During our busy enrollment time, we won't schedule a second appointment if you don't honor the first one. Wasting those time slots is not fair to other students. Please call in advance to cancel if you can't make your appointment. We appreciate the courtesy.
- About walk-ins... We do occasionally see you without an appointment. Things do come up unexpectedly. But realize we may not always have time available. Scheduled times are also better because we can prepare and advise you more carefully. And finally, remember that simple questions do not always require simple answers. Should I drop this class? Although presented in Yes/No format, the answer may actually involve carefully looking at your transcript and goals. As with other things in life, plan ahead for best results.
Preparing for the appointment
Here are some tips to help you get the most from our meeting.*
First Things First
- Work hard to succeed in your courses and get involved on campus if possible. Determine to do well. That's the best way to minimize problems.
- If you are having academic trouble, come see us before it is too late. As good chefs know, you can change your recipe early on... but it is awfully hard to uncook the stew.
- Keep yourself informed about University Policies. Know as much as possible about your curriculum options. Stay aware of important dates and deadlines.
More Specifically
- Look through the Undergraduate Catalog (during enrollment particularly). Identify courses that you would like or need to take and programs that you're considering.
- Look through the Course Schedule (also during enrollment particularly). See which courses are offered next semester. Bring a list of possible choices to discuss.
- Take some time to consider what questions you have. Write them down so you remember to get answers while you're in the office.
- Gather any information that you know you'll need for making decisions. Do you need to talk with an instructor? Parents? Financial Assistance? If you know it will help to have that information before talking with us, make your appointments accordingly.
- Come ready to articulate your thoughts. Your advisor really needs to know what you're thinking!
And Afterwards
- Follow up with the contacts and resources your advisor suggests.
- Act immediately. Good luck is infatuated with efficiency.
- K-State is really only a myriad series of opportunities. We can help you identify and sort your opportunities, but through your daily actions, you then determine the direction and degree of your success. Remember that you're ultimately responsible for your decisions and their outcomes.
