Swogger Fund Provides New Opportunity
for Primary Texts Students
Starting in the Fall of 2008, new students
are required to take a core course in Primary Texts
at some point in their program, preferably near the
beginning. Primary Texts students will be guaranteed
a spot, but other students may also enroll until the
class is full. This course will be multi-disciplinary
and team-taught by instructors from fields such as English,
History, Physics, and Political Science.
The purpose of this course is to help
students get more out of primary texts in various disciplines.
They will be guided through short representative texts
by some of the best professors at K-State, scholars
who know these texts very well. Emphasis will be on
developing the students' ability to think analytically
and critically to formulate their own point of view.
The instructors involved are very excited to be a part
of this new undertaking, which will be supported by
the newly established Swogger Primary Texts Certificate
Fund, a fund specifically established for this purpose
by Dr. Glenn and Mrs. Claire Swogger.
Since this course is multidisciplinary and
is required. Students will be asked to spread their
coursework over at least two additional disciplines,
instead of three, as was previously required. Students who entered the program prior to Fall 2008 may choose to follow the old requirements or the new ones. Please contact Dr. Bagby
for additional information about this course and change
in requirements starting in Fall 2008. You may also
ask to join the Primary Texts listserv for updates.
