The MFA is the terminal advanced degree in studio art and is a 60-semester-credit degree at K-State which are normally distributed over six semesters of a three year program. The credit hours include:

MFA course requirements
Major concentration area 35-40
Supporting studio courses 3-10
Art history 9
Free electives 11
Total hrs. 58-70

The thesis requirement for the M.F.A. degree consists of (1) the Graduate Exhibition: a substantial body of original works of art to be exhibited on campus during the final semester of the student's program, and (2) a written document in which the candidate demonstrates proficiency in conducting research and in analyzing, interpreting and organizing material, as well as evidencing the ability to communicate perceptions, insights, and conclusions. A final oral examination will be given at the time of the Thesis Exhibition.
