Department Hosts Fusion Week
During the week of October 10th, the department hosted a series of
presentations and workshops from professionals in the field of art and
design. There were four designers and artists present for the event.
Among the guests were Greg Erf, professor of art and design at
Eastern New Mexico State University, Bonnie O‚Connell, professor
and director of the Fine Arts Press and Letterpress Typography studio
at the University of Nebraska, Gary Kelly, internationally known
illustrator and Ryan Thomas, executive producer of multimedia at
Firstborn in New York City. The purpose of the event is to encourage
ideas and bring new voices and creative work to the K-State Campus,
according to Robert Hower, Head of Visual Communications. It is the hope of the department that students will take advantage of diverse experiences such as this in order to become motivated to create.
Incoming Faculty
This coming fall 2004 semester the department will be welcoming a new faculty member to our Visual Communications area. Rachel Melis
will be joining us. A spring 2004 MFA graduate from the University of
Wisconsin-Madison, Ms. Melis comes to K-State with a degree in
Graphics and experience in teaching of undergraduate course work.
Among her many exhibitions and awards, she was named a Jeanne
Burkle Awardee as an undergraduate; this award is granted to a
senior female student who has made a great contribution both
academically and non-academically to the advance of women. We
welcome Rachel to our department and community!
