Ceramics professor, Yoshiro Ikeda, along with 5 other Kansas State
University professors was recognized this April for his outstanding
contribution to K-State. Ikeda was noted as having been an excellent
contributor to the humanities, his profession and the community
at large.
Yoshiro will be recognized at the Fall 2004 commencement
ceremony in December. Provost James R. Coffman says "The title
university distinguished professor is reserved for the small group of
faculty who have a continuous and truly outstanding record of
scholarship, recognized nationally and around the world."
Professor Ikeda has exhibited in more than 300 international,
national and regional and local venues in his career.
Among many other awards and honors, Ikeda has been the recipient
of a Kansas Arts Commission Individual Artist Fellowship as well as
having demonstrated for National Council on Education for the
Ceramic Arts conference on several different occasions.
We are very proud to have such an invaluable member in our
department and are extremely honored that Ikeda presents such an
admirable reflection on our department.
Metals Area Offers Repair Days
The Metalsmithing Society held their 7th annual Repair Days at the
Manhattan Arts Center Annex. Members of the society and area
craftsmen offered a variety of services, including soldering, polishing,
welding, dent removal, re-tinning of copper cookware, repair of metal
furniture and statuary and jewelry repair.
Master metal smith for Repair Days was Jim Meunch from Iowa State
University. The event also drew in several alumni from the Metals
and Jewelry program. Among these were alum from Lawrence,
Kansas, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
Proceeds from the event will go to sponsor the society's costs for
upcoming trips and exhibits.
