Chang
Sik Kim is a graphic designer and interactive information
designer as well as assistant professor at San Jose
State University. He has expertise in metamorphic image
making with experimental typography and book design
as well as visual identity design. However, his recent
works and researches have emphasized the dynamic interactive
design. He was an assistant professor at An Yang Technical
College and a lecturer at several other universities
in Korea. He started his educational career in the University
of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to teach graphic design
courses as an instructor, and received "Teaching
Excellence Award" of year 1999~2000.
Chang
Sik Kim has published three complete books (Electronic
Publication Design, Graphic Idea Notebook, and Letter
and Images) and numerous articles. For last 10 years
as an educator, he held three solo exhibitions that
contained works on extremely diverse experimental subjects
such as: typography, Character design, and image making).
His research papers, articles, and works have appeared
in various professional publications including PRINT
magazine, MONTHLY DESIGN, COSMA, IMPRESS, MAC World
KOREA, Weekly DESIGN NEWS, LG AD Magazine, KIDP and
VIDAK annual. He has also received numerous design awards
from professional organizations.
Beside
educational activities, since 1989 he has been involved
various degrees of visual communication design areas
such as: publication design, visual identity design,
advertising design, time-base-media design, etc. Particularly
in the field of publication design, he designed many
newspapers, magazines, and more than 150 book covers.
His another creativity has been recognized by creating
many successful characters in Korea His initiated web
site design for the distance learning course of UIUC
was announced "the most effective and comprehensive
site" as a appropriate model among National French
language Institutions in the US.
