Whether you need a portfolio to enter the art department is the most often asked question by new and prospective students. The answer is no, you will not need to show any artwork to enter the program. You will be admitted as a general BFA, Bachelor of Fine Arts student. If you would like to specify the sub-curriculum you are interested in when you apply, that's fine. I like to know where a student might end up. During your sophomore year, you will be expected to apply to the Concentration of your choice by review. Check out the FAQ link for further information.

Each spring, during the KSU Open House will be the opportunity for incoming fall students to apply for scholarships by portfolio. Though most students bring the work to campus, should distance or time prevent you from making the trip to K-State, we will accept slides or photographs of artwork. Contact the Art Office (art@ksu.edu) for an application form, or download the PDF in the scholarship section to your left.

If you would like to schedule a visit to the art department and meet with me to discuss the program, your interests and direction, call Campus Visits at 785-532-6318 for a scheduled day on campus visiting housing, financial aid, a campus tour and visits to the departments of your choice. Or, if you would like to stop only by the Art Department, contact me and we can set up a visit.
