Miss Black and Gold 2005


Our 7th Annual Miss Black and Gold Pageant was held on Saturday, December 3, 2005. The K-State Student Union Forum Hall hosted over 500 family members, friends, students, faculty, staff, and visitors as 9 young women competed for the title of Miss Black and Gold 2005-2006. There were 10 ladies who were scheduled to compete, but due to circumstances beyond her control, one of our contenstants was unable to be present. We, the Kappa Tau Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc would like to take this moment to thank each of the young ladies who participated in this year's pageant. It was truly a pleasure working with each of you. You are ALL QUEENS!!!! It is is our sincere desire that you continue to let the beautiful light that is inside of each of you SHINE for all of the world to see!!!

We would also like to take this moment to give our heartfelt thanks to the pageant co-coordinators, Bro Patrick Agwu and Bro Brandon Clark . You both did an EXCELLENT Job, brothers and you are appreciated!! We can't thank you tow without giving an EXTRA SPECIAL thank you to the LOVELY and TALENTED MISS MARGARET TURNER (pictured below on the left), Associate Director of the Upward Bound Program here at Kansas State University, and Pageant Co-Coordinator for 7 YEARS straight!!!!!  This pageant would not have been possible without your hard work and dedication.  For that, we are eternally grateful!!! Also, we wanted to give a shoutout to Miss Marsha McDade(Miss Gold 2002, pictured below on the right) for all of your help as well!

After a welcome by the Chapter President, the lovely and talented Miss Black and Gold 2003 Talia Toles performed the Black National Anthem, "Lift Ev'ry Voice"

We would also like to thank Miss Black 2004-05 Angela Nichols for the presentation that she gave, dedicating the evening to the late Rosa Parks

Bro. Paris Rossiter and Miss Latoya Farris were the hosts for the evening

The 2005 Miss Black and Gold Pageant contestants were backstage HYPED and ready to take the stage...

Which they did in GRAND FASHION during the opening number!!

And after a grueling Question and Answer competition, the judges had picked their winners....

Miss Makayla Lyons won the titles "Miss Souvenir Book" and "Miss Dedication"!! Kara Wilder took home the titles "Miss Career" and "Miss GPA". Nani Hollman earned the "Miss Swimwear" and "Miss Sisterhood" titles. Although she was not present to recieve her sash, Jasmine Smith earned the title of "Miss Diligence"!

Miss Devin Bailey was given the title "Miss Elegance" and crowned "Miss Black", the 2nd runner up!! Miss Corazon Ochanda was crowned "Miss Gold", the 1st runner up!!

Miss Kiana Smith was given the title "Miss Talent" and crowned as Kappa Tau's 2005-06 "Miss Black and Gold"!!

Miss Smith took her first walk as a queen!!

Immediately following, she was serenaded by just over 30 Alpha Men from the Mid-West and the South!!
