Constitution
Note: The constitution has been around longer than any of the current officers, and is somewhere in the middle of being updated to suite the clubs changes.Article 1: Principle and Purpose
1. To offer regular showings of Japanese animation (Anime) to society members and interested visitors in a public venue.
2. To bring together fans of anime and provide a forum for them to discuss and share their interest.
3. To amass a society library to facilitate showings and allow society members immediate access to titles of interest.
4. To promote broader interest in anime and assist anime aficionados in the pursuit of their interest.
Article 2: Society Officers
Electing officers
Officers shall be elected at the last meeting in the spring semester of each year. The voting will be done by secret ballot, and at least two-thirds of the society's members must be present. Officers will serve for one year. Should an Officer be unable to carry out their duties, a replacement will be appointed until the next scheduled meeting, at which time a new Officer will be elected.
Removing an Officer:
An Officer may be removed by a three/fourths majority vote of the current members.
Article 3: Society Actions and Activities
1. The Society will hold regular showings on a timetable to be determined by the Officers, with the intention of viewing on a weekly basis when feasible.
2. The Society will collect dues from all members to support its activities. The amount of dues will be proposed by the Treasurer and approved by all the Officers.
3. The Society will maintain a list of resources where students interested in anime or related issues (e.g. manga) may turn for material.
4. The Society will expend resources to expand its archives, as recommended by society members and decided by the Officers. The Society will also try to pursue club discounts for society members wishing to purchase anime material.
5. In the interest of expanding society archives, the society will obtain duplicates of appropriate material at opportunity.
6. The members shall be responsible for selecting the material to be shown at society and public showings. The members shall also recommend material to acquire to the Officers.
7. The Anime Society shall refrain from showing, purchasing, and maintaining within its library any hentai or sexually violent anime or manga.
Article 4: Society Members
While it is the purpose of the society to foster as broad an interest in anime as possible, it is only reasonable that those regularly present at showings help defray the costs of society operation. This principle extends to other services rendered by the society. The following are privileges of dues-paying members in good standing:
1. Offering recommendations for viewing material and/or additions to society archives.
2. Accessing society discounts on anime purchases.
3. Accessing material in the society archives.
4. Being on the official society email list.
5. Running for an Office.
6. Contributing to society publications (including electronic media).
Article 5: Amending the Constitution
Amendments to the constitution may be ratified in the following ways:
1. By unanimous agreement of the Officers.
2. By a three/fourths majority vote of the current Members.
