Domestic Violence Awareness
Nationally, Alpha Chi Omegas support the victims of domestic violence. Members
donate, volunteer, and work to change laws in our efforts to eliminate domestic
violence.
Locally, the Gamma Zeta Chapter has set up a Domestic Violence Awareness page on Facebook.
The Alpha Chi Omega Foundation
The Alpha Chi Omega Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the national fraternity and provides support to individual members, to chapters across the country, and to the Fraternity in the form of educational grants. The Foundation supports many educational programs for its members including Leadership Academy for the chapter presidents and IMPACT Alpha Chi Omega.
Manhattan Crisis Center
The Gamma Zeta Chapter at Kansas State University works with The Crisis Center, Inc. a local haven for domestically abused and sexually assaulted women and their families. Several members volunteer at the center and the entire chapter participates year-round in events and fundraisers that support the center and raise awareness of domestic violence and abuse.
Community Service
During the 2009-2010 school year our women completed over 2,300 hours of community service!
Hope Blooms Fashion Show: To Teach, To Tell, To HOPE
Hope Blooms is a philanthropic fashion show created to raise awareness and support for victims suffering from domestic violence and abuse. Alpha Chi Omega has partnered with the Union Program Council, and other campus groups, as well as local businesses to create this annual fashion show.
Centered around the transition from dark colors to light colors occurring between winter and spring, "Hope Blooms" symbolizes the escape from abuse, and the hope of blooming into a new person through the strength and help of a supportive community.
Our Chapter hosts this fashion show in the spring with the help of volunteer student models and local clothing stores. Past sponsors have included Ann-A-Lee's, Dillard's, Maurice's, Lady Borck, Icing, Kieu's, JCPenney, T-La-Re, Krystallos, Zotcis, Chic Boutique, The Palace, Christopher and Banks and Sseko Designs. All profits go directly to The Crisis Center, Inc. of Manhattan.
| National Luminary Project October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Alpha Chi Omega will continue to put on an awareness event for students at K-State on October 14, 2010 in Bosco Student Plaza. We put on the National Luminary Project and display candles and facts about domestic violence to raise awareness in the Kansas State and Manhattan communities. During the month we also wear and pass out purple ribbons, the symbol for domestic violence awareness. Our Chapter is ready and excited to add more educational and awareness raising activities to October 2010. |
Lighting Up the Little Apple 2009 marked the fourth annual “Lighting Up the Little Apple.” We planned the philanthropy which is a holiday light competition within our community. We had two different competitions, a Greek house competition, and a Christmas tree competition. Each house was judged on “most traditional”, “brightest”, and “overall creativity”. Judges included the house mothers from Alpha Chi Omega, Gamma Phi Beta, and KSU Men's Basketball player Wally Judge. The houses were judged during the last week of November, and winners were announced right before Finals Week. Approximately 1000 dollars was raised and we were able to donate all the proceeds to the Crisis Center. |
Serve-A-Palooza During the fall semester, our women take one week to solely focus on the importance of philanthropy and serving the local community. All members volunteer around Manhattan during the week for various organizations. Serve-A-Palooza will take place this year from November 8-12. Have questions about Alpha Chi Omega’s Philanthropies?
