Ticks (Amblyomma americanum, Rhipicephalus sanguineus):
With respect to insect vectors of human and animal disease, College of Veterinary Medicine faculty member Roman Ganta is studying ticks (Amblyomma americanum, Rhipicephalus sanguineus) vectoring the rickettsial pathogens (Ehrlichia chaffeensis and E. canis) which are the causal agents of human and canine monocytic ehrlichiosis. Functional genomic approaches will greatly enhance the ability of these scientists to examine vector functions important to disease transmission. |
