Since campus activities during the weekend were minimal at K-State, a program was created in 2001 to provide that type of activity for students who are looking for something new and fun to do on a Friday night. The new program, First Friday, operated on a monthly schedule with events on the first Friday of September, October, November, February, March, and April. In the fall of 2002, the Union Program Council, along with the K-State Student Union and the Student Governing Association, began sponsoring a weekly event called K-State AfterHours.

Typical events include "Dollar Night," where you can attend the feature or classic film for $1, free food, crafts, live music, and entertainment such as grocery bingo, comedians, and novelty games. The Union Program Council is looking to co-host these events with student organizations from campus. This is an excellent opportunity for your student group to sponsor an event and get some name recognition on campus without spending any money. Union Program Council will provide the budget for groups to plan an After Hours event, as well as advising and assistance from the AfterHours Graduate Assistant and committee. Student groups are then responsible for deciding on and planning the events with the help from the AfterHours committee, promoting the Friday night's activities, and attending the event to "host" it.

It is our hope that student groups will take advantage of this opportunity to become involved with weekend programming on our campus. It is a great opportunity for your club, honorary, or organization to take part in something fun and exciting as a group. Sponsoring groups will be recognized on all promotional material, which will also make it a great opportunity to increase campus awareness of your group.

If your group is interested or would like to learn more about this opportunity, please contact the Union Program Council at (785) 532-6571 or upc@ksu.edu. We look forward to working with you.
