Each semester, every
student in Architectural Engineering and Construction Science must
attend four (4) Architectural Engineering (ARE) or Construction Science
(CNS) seminars to complete the required ARE 020 CREDIT. If
you miss an ARE seminar you should attend a CNS seminar during the same
semester in order to make it up. If you do not end the
semester with 4 seminars attended, you receive NO CREDIT. The
only way to make up a “NO CREDIT” for ARE 020 is to
submit a ten-page paper to Ray Yunk, the seminar advisor.

Smith,
Seckman, & Reid
Richard
spoke about how SSR is now using the latest Building Information
Modeling Software (BIM) to design facilities. He showed that BIM
software is much more than nicely rendered models and basic floor
plans, it links 2D and 3D models with real information to allow genuine
system analysis.
February 22nd
Terry

Townsend
Engineering
ASHRAE
President
Terry
spoke about Sustainable Applications - ASHRAE Technology Awards. He
gave a brief overview of how new technology is being applied to
building design innovations using numerous project examples.
March 15th
Kurt Ewert, P.E.
Casey Steiner
Hoss & Brown
Engineers
Kurt and Casey spoke about Natatorium Design.
This type of builng brings many design challenges to the architect,
structural engineer, and especially the mechanical engineer. Kurt and
Casey gave a brief overview about controlling the humidity and chemical
levels in the pool areas while maintaining a comfortable space.

explained, such as using underfloor air distribution systems and
different examples of how the electrical power distribution system can
be designed in a casino.
Ryan, Jarrod, and Dustin spoke about the
pharmaceutical and biotechnological drug manufacturing process and
showed how it can be broken down into manageable components which can
then be used to take a project from a concept into construction.
November 9th
Cannon Design
Greg Raffaelle PhD, PE
Greg reviewed the main load carrying
structural systems used for steel and reinforced concrete building
design. Emphasis was placed on identifying the load path for the main
lateral load resisting systems in buildings to resist wind and seismic
forces.
November 30th
Ray Yunk
ARE Professor
Ray talked about the graduating seniors and
where they will be going to work. Ray also spoke about the recent LEED
conference he attended in Denver, CO and showed a few of the
presentation topics of the conference.
