Reasonable Attendance Modification
A student who is registered with the Student Access Center may qualify for consideration for class absences due to a disability. Because attendance may be an integral part of the course, policies are set by each faculty member at the college, departmental, or individual level. The accommodation is a request for some flexibility in the policy. The amount of flexibility will depend on the nature of the class and whether class participation is a factor in the course requirements. Similarly, faculty also determine policies regarding make-up work and missed quizzes/exams.
This accommodation does not allow a student to miss a large number of classes for any given course. If a course grade is dependent on attendance, it is important that the student and faculty member discuss the issue so that the student can then make an informed decision about alternatives.
