Registering your copyright is easy. The forms can be downloaded from Copyright Office’s website, and they are in the processing of developing a system of registering copyrights online.
If you win an infringement lawsuit over a a copyright which you registered within three months of the date of first publication, you may be entitled to receive an award of attorney's fees and statutory damages (versus an award of just the actual damages and profits resulting from the infringement).
Registrations made within five years after publication of the work have a greater chance of being treated in court as “prima facie” evidence of the validity of the copyright.” [Section 410(c)].
