2013 Human Ecology Achievements
* The K-State Personal Financial Planning team tied for third place in the national competition at the national Financial Planning Association conference recently in Orlando. Team members are Jamie Engelken, Sam Honey and Rashelle West, all seniors. November 2013
* Mary Molt, associate director of housing and dining services and assistant professor of hospitality management and dietetics, was recognized by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics for her outstanding service and leadership in the field of dietetics. Molt is one of eight individuals nationwide who received the 2013 Medallion Award academy’s Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo in Houston. October 2013
* The Justin Hall addition became the third building on the Manhattan campus to earn LEED — Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design — Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The 13,000-square-foot addition joins the School of Leadership Studies and the Food Services Building at the Jardine Apartment Complex as LEED Gold-certified. The International Animal Health and Food Safety Institute at K-State Olathe is LEED Silver-certified. July 2013
* K-State was named one of the Top 10 fashion marketing schools in the country. The apparel marketing option in the apparel and textiles program in the department of apparel, textiles and interior design was ranked No. 10 out of more than 200 fashion schools by Fashion-schools.org. The group also selected the College of Human Ecology apparel design and production option in the apparel and textiles program No. 29 among the Top 75 fashion design schools. May 2013
* Timothy Musch, professor of kinesiology and anatomy and physiology at Kansas State University, is the American Physiological Society's 2013 Arthur C. Guyton Physiology Educator of the Year. The national honor recognizes Musch for making a significant impact on the students he teaches, on his institution, and an enduring and significant impact on physiology education on the national and international stage. * The Kansas Athletic Training Society recognized several students in the athletic training program for outstanding academic achievement. Four students are earning the society's All-Academic Honors, four students are earning second team All-Academic Honors and 10 students are earning honorable mention. Honorees must be juniors or seniors with a minimum 3.8 grade point average. March 2013
* Gayle Doll, assistant professor of family studies and human services and director of the Center on Aging, was named a fellow of the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education, the educational unit of the Gerontological Society of America. The honor recognizes outstanding leadership in gerontology and geriatric education. Under Doll's leadership, the number of students enrolled in gerontology, a secondary major, has quadrupled. The center also has become renowned for its work in changing the culture of nursing homes to become more person centered. February 2013
* Sandra Stith, director of the marriage and family therapy program and the Vera Mowrey McAninch professor in the School of Family Studies and Human Services, was named a fellow of the National Council on Family Relations. Stith is the author of "Couples Therapy for Domestic Violence: Finding Safe Solutions. She has edited three books on intimate partner violence, is author of more than 60 articles and book chapters, and has received funding from the National Institutes of Health to develop and test a couple's treatment program for intimate partner violence.
