2011 Student Groups Achievements
* A team of K-State architectural engineering students has continued the university's success in an international design competition by taking second place in the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems selection category of the 2011 student design competition sponsored by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers. K-State has placed first or second in the international competition for the last five years, and has finished in the top five of the event since 2004. October 2011
* A team of graduate students from the department of agricultural economics earned first place in the International Food and Agribusiness Management Association's case study competition in Frankfurt, Germany. Graduate students Brady Brewer, David Boussios, Cooper Morris, Jessica Johnson and Jaeljattin Jean participated in the graduate student case competition and executive industry interviews. They were given four hours to analyze a business case and craft an executive summary of the problem and their proposed solution. The team presented their analysis and answered questions during two rounds of judging. Team coaches are Vincent Amanor-Boadu, associate professor of agricultural economics, and Arlo Biere, professor of agricultural economics. June 2011
* K-State's quarter-scale tractor team won the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers' 14th annual International Quarter-Scale Tractor Student Design Competition, June 2-5, in Peoria, Ill. It's the eighth time the team has won the international championship, and the 12th time in the last 13 years that the team has finished first or in the top three of the competition. In addition, K-State came in second in the X-Team competition for students new to the event. June 2011
* K-State's Student United Way, Students in Action, received the Innovation Award for creative use of electronic media to engage the student population in giving and advocating at the United Way Worldwide conference in Orlando, Fla. The student organization also was recognized for its annual Give It Up for Good event, which takes place during finals week every spring. May 2011
* Reid Lundin, architectural engineering student from Manhattan, has received the 2011 Council of American Structural Engineers Scholarship from the American Council of Engineering Companies. The national scholarship is worth $1,500. The scholarship recognizes academic achievement and experience in structural engineering. May 2011
* A K-State team won two out of five categories -- the most by any school -- in the Architectural Engineering Institute's Charles Pankow Foundation Architectural Engineering Student Competition. The event, March 31, was part of the 2011 Architectural Engineering Conference in Oakland, Calif. The K-State team was tops in the electrical category and the construction category for their ingenuity, innovativeness and originality of work. Fourteen teams from 12 universities participated in the competition, which challenged students to address design issues for a new contemporary art museum in San Francisco, Calif. Teams had to be sensitive to the local architecture and history of the area. April 2011
* K-State's Quest Freshman Honor Society, a freshman leadership and development program, received the Outstanding Feature Award at the recent 2011 Blue Key Honor Society national convention. The award recognizes a special feature or contribution to campus life that is observable and raises the awareness of Blue Key on campus. K-State's Blue Key chapter sponsors Quest. March 2011
* K-State's chapter of Blue Key Honor Society has received the Outstanding Chapter Award. The honor is given to chapters of the senior leadership honorary that show the most commitment to scholarship, leadership and service. The award was presented at the recent Blue Key national convention at Clemson University in Clemson, S.C. Feb. 2011
