Constitution of the Asian American Student Union
(Updated for 2009-2010 school year)

Article I

Name and Purpose

The purpose of this organization is to foster unity and support for all Asian-American/International students on campus; to provide awareness of the Asian cultures to Kansas State University faculty, administrators, students, and community; to provide a means by which Asian-American students can become more visible to the Kansas State University community; and to create an atmosphere that promotes and teaches the equality of diverse people.

Article II

Membership

Membership is open to those who wish to learn and become better acquainted with the Asian American culture. Membership rights and privileges shall be set forth in the by-laws of this organization.

Article III

Officers

The following offices of the Asian American Student Union shall be the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Historian/PR. No member shall hold more than one office at a time.

Article IV

Executive Board

The Executive Board shall include all the elected officers of the organization. Each member of the Executive Board shall be present at each meeting unless prior notification has been made with the President or another Executive Board member who will be in attendance.

Article V

Meetings

Section 1 - Executive Board
The Executive Board shall meet as needed to discuss current business and to map out an agenda for the upcoming meeting. Other meetings may be called by the President.

Section 2 - General Meetings
The general membership shall meet once every two weeks starting with the month of September through May.

Section 3 - Special Meetings
Special meetings may be called at the discretion of the President upon the approval of the elected officers.

Section 4 - Quorum
The purpose of the quorum shall be to conduct business at a duly called meeting. The quorum shall consist of one-third active members who do not hold office.

Section 5 - The Budget
Any money received by the organization will be voted on by the officers and general members as to how it is to be spent.

Article VI

Amendments

Section 1 - Proposals for Amendments
Any active member may propose new amendments to this constitution

Section 2 - Adoption of New Amendments
Once a new amendment has been proposed, it shall be scheduled to be voted on at the next meeting of the general membership. An amendment must be approved by two-thirds of the active members in order to be adopted.

Article VII

Ratification of the Constitution

For constitution to be ratified it requires a simple majority of the general membership.
